Conscious Sedation in Trezzo sull’Adda

For some years, so-called conscious sedation has become widespread in Italy, aided by the presence of anesthesia in clinics. At Clinica Dentale Zanardi, such methods are implemented on a daily basis, not only for anxious patients, but also for the elderly, those with heart disease or those affected by other illnesses who would prefer to be treated in a hospital. Below, we provide answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding this topic. Frequently Asked Questions About Conscious Sedation

In which procedures do you most often use this method?
Above all, we use it in the procedure for immediate implants, thanks to which it is possible to switch from mobile prostheses to fixed teeth in just 24 hours from the completion of the procedure.
What does this consist of?
During the procedure to which the patient is subjected, they are in an apparent state of unconsciousness. But in reality, the patient is not asleep and their reflexes are not altered. During sedation, vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation are constantly monitored.
What does the method consist of?
The patient arrives after fasting in the morning and is sedated by an anesthesiologist through intravenous infusion using a benzodiazepine, which puts the patient in a state of deep sedation. The oral surgeon therefore carries out the procedure with the highest level of safety. At the end of the procedure, the patient gradually regains a complete state of consciousness.
Besides not suffering, are there any other benefits?
The day after, it is likely that the patient will not remember any of the procedure and will never again have fear or anxiety about the dentist.
Can all dental clinics carry out conscious sedation?
No. Only health centres with authorisation from a local ASL (healthcare agency) for the specialist field of anesthesiology can do so. Our facility must fulfill well-defined requirements such as the possession of a semi-automatic defibrillator, an emergency medical cart and lifesaving medication.
